Attention Parents/Students Targeting Grade 7 Entry in 2027.

Each year, the majority of private, independent, and faith-based schools in Victoria conduct competitive entry and scholarship exams to select students for Grade 7 enrolment in the following academic year. In addition, about 40 government schools in Victoria conduct exams for the entry in to Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program for grade 7 enrolment in the following year.  These exams are often rigorous and may also include an interview. Without proper preparation, the process can be overwhelming for students.

Most entrance and scholarship exams are held in February or March, making June of the previous year the ideal time to begin preparation allowing a minimum six-month window to build the necessary skills and confidence. Some schools conduct their exams —in October or November—giving families nearly a full year to prepare.

That’s where Eduventure comes in. If your child is aiming for Grade 7 entry in 2027, they will need to sit the required exams in 2026, while in Grade 6. To give them the best chance of success, it's important to begin structured coaching in early to mid-2025, while they are still in Grade 5.  With Eduventure’s High Intensity Training (HIT) program your child will be equipped with the strategies, skills, and confidence to perform at their best.

What Makes Eduventure HIT Program So Special?

Our Scholarship Preparation Program is delivered in structured group classes, where students benefit from:

  • A targeted curriculum designed specifically for scholarship tests

  • Expert guidance on tackling different question formats and styles

  • Regular timed practice to sharpen exam technique and time management

  • A supportive & engaging classroom environment that builds confidence.

  • A high-energy learning environment where students are inspired by each others performance and success.

Students develop key skills in reading comprehension, advanced mathematics, reasoning, and written expression—all aligned with the demands of scholarship exams.

Who is it for?

  • Students sitting for private school entry/scholarship exam for grade 7 in 2026 for entry in 2027.

  • Students sitting for 'Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL)' Program entry exam.

  • Students who are keen to put their mathematical and English language abilities to test through regular, national and international assessments like ACER, EDUTEST, AAS, ICAS and more.

Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Schools

The Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program is designed to cater to the educational needs of gifted and highly able students in Victorian government secondary schools. In Victoria, about 40 government schools offer the SEAL program. It provides a challenging and enriching curriculum that accelerates learning, allowing students to rapidly progress through their six years secondary education and complete it within 5 years, in some cases.

It also provides opportunities for in depth studies, providing an extended range of options in their final year of study. This program emphasizes higher-order thinking, independent research skills, and leadership opportunities, fostering both academic and personal growth in a supportive environment with like-minded peers.

For students aiming to excel in SEAL entrance exams, Eduventure's High Intensity Training (HIT) Program offers a wider scope knowledge as well targeted preparation. This program equips students with the necessary skills and strategies to succeed in competitive assessments, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the SEAL selection process. The entrance exams for SEAL program are mostly held in April for entry in the following year. The exam structure is similar to Edutest, ACER and ACER- HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test), but only harder.  This exam is designed to filter the 'cream', the top performing & academically gifted students.

Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Tests

ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) exams are widely used by private and selective-entry schools across Australia to assess students for scholarships and accelerated learning programs. These tests evaluate a student’s abilities in mathematics, reading comprehension, written expression, and abstract reasoning—skills that go beyond the standard school curriculum. Known for their difficulty, ACER exams are highly competitive and require focused preparation to perform well.

ACER Test Structure: Secondary (Levels 1, 2 and 3)

- For entry into Years 7 to 12.

- Delivery: Online or Paper based.

- Includes 2 components as below.

1.Written Expression

  • Two test forms available (Test 1 and Test 4)

  • Extended response

  • 25 minutes each

Two topics for writing will be set to allow students to use different styles of writing. The Written Expressions tests focus on the student’s ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing.

2.Humanities – Comprehension and Interpretation

  • 40–45 multiple-choice questions

  • 40 minutes

This test asks students to answer questions related to written and visual material. The material may be drawn from subject areas such as English, Art, History, Geography and Social Studies. No specialist knowledge in these areas is assumed – all the information needed will be provided. Students are required to think critically and make judgements about different types of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, cartoons, diagrams and maps.

3.Mathematics (Level 1), Mathematics and Science (Level 2 & 3)

  • 32–36 multiple-choice questions

  • 40 minutes

This test attempts to measure mathematical and scientific abilities rather than school achievement in these areas. The material used for the questions is selected from a wide variety of sources, and may differ from standard school-based curriculum materials.

EDUTEST

Edutest is a leading academic assessment used by many independent, private, and selective-entry schools across Australia to identify students for scholarship opportunities and accelerated learning programs. The test is designed to evaluate a student’s abilities in key areas such as numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics, and written expression. Known for its difficulty and time pressure, Edutest goes well beyond standard school assessments, making focused preparation essential for success.

Edutest - Test Structure:

Scholarship and entrance tests are comprised of two types of tests: Ability tests and Achievement tests.

1. The Ability tests:

Ability tests in Verbal and Numerical Reasoning are designed to measure a student's ability to think, reason and solve problems, without necessarily relying on prior knowledge. Ability generally predicts how quickly a student will be able to learn and the level of complexity they can comfortably deal with.

  • Verbal Reasoning

Measures the ability to think and reason using words and language. This includes vocabulary, word relationships, classification and deduction.

~ 30 minutes long

 ~ multiple-choice

  • Numerical Reasoning

Measures the ability to think and reason using numbers. This includes series,    matrices, arithmetical reasoning and deduction.

~ 30 minutes long

~ multiple-choice

2. The Achievement tests

Achievement tests in Reading Comprehension, Mathematics and Written Expression are designed to measure actual achievement or performance in some key academic areas. Achievement scores are influenced by a student's ability, as well as the application and practise of knowledge that has been learned.

  • Reading Comprehension

Measures the capacity to read and interpret meaning from written passages, as

well as correct, complete and punctuate sentences.

~ 30 minutes long

~ multiple-choice

  • Mathematics

Measures year level appropriate mathematical knowledge, including items

covering numbers, measurement, algebra, space and data.

~ 30 minutes long

~ multiple-choice

  • Written Expression

This test assesses the ability to convey ideas clearly in written form. Punctuation, creativity, construction, grammar, spelling and relevance to the task are assessed. Any of the following modes of writing may be assessed: creative, descriptive, narrative, persuasive, expository or informative.

~ 15 minutes long

~ no planning or reading time
