Each year, Victoria's four fully Selective Entry High Schools that provide a specialist environment for academically high-achieving students in Years 9 to 12, and a large number of private, independent, and faith-based schools in Victoria, conduct competitive entry and scholarship exams to select students for Grade 9 enrolment for entry in the following academic year. These exams are quite different to the usual school exams and are quite rigorous and are highly competitive. Each year thousands of students sit for these exams in search of better educational opportunities. Without proper preparation, the process can be overwhelming for students. Most entrance and scholarship exams are held in February or March, while 'Selective School Entrance exams are held in June. making June/July of the previous year the ideal time to begin preparation allowing a minimum of six-month window to build the necessary skills and confidence to face the exam. Some schools conduct their exams —in October or November—giving families nearly a full year to prepare.
That’s where Eduventure comes in. If your child is aiming for Grade 9 entry in 2027, they will need to sit the required exams in 2026, while in Grade 8. To give them the best chance of success, it's important to begin structured coaching in early to mid- 2025, while they are still in Grade 7. With Eduventure’s High Intensity Training (HIT) program your child will be equipped with the strategies, skills, and confidence to perform at their best. Â
Our Scholarship Preparation Program is delivered in structured group classes, where students benefit from:
A targeted curriculum designed specifically for scholarship tests
Expert guidance on tackling different question formats and styles
Regular timed practice to sharpen exam technique and time management
A supportive & engaging classroom environment that builds confidence.Â
A high-energy learning environment where students are inspired by each others performance and success.  Â
Students develop key skills in reading comprehension, advanced mathematics, reasoning, and written expression—all aligned with the demands of scholarship exams.
Who is it for?
Students sitting for private school entry/scholarship exams in 2026, for entry in 2027 in to grade 9.
Students sitting for 'Victorian Selective Entry High Schools Entrance exam in 2026 (while in grade 8), for grade 9 entry in 2027. Â Â
Students who are keen to put their mathematical and English language abilities to test through regular, national and international assessments like ACER, EDUTEST, AAS, ICAS and more.
Victoria has four highly prestigious government secondary schools known as Select Entry High Schools (SEHS). These schools are designed for academically gifted students and offer a rigorous and enriched learning environment from Years 9 to 12, with challenging academic curriculum, a wide range of extracurricular activities, and a pathway to high achievement at the VCE level and beyond.
The four SEHS in Victoria are:
Melbourne High School (boys only)
The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School (girls only)
Nossal High School (co-educational)
Suzanne Cory High School (co-educational)
Due to the highly selective nature of these schools, we highly recommend students to participate in our Eduventure HIT program for at least 12 months to familiarise themselves with the exam format and improve their performance.
Victorian Select Entry Exam - Exam StructureÂ
Admission into these schools is highly competitive and based on performance in a centrally administered entrance examination.Â
Entrance exam duration: approximately 4 hours.Â
The entrance exam assesses students’ aptitude for higher order thinking, problem-solving, reasoning, creative thinking, comprehension, interpretation and their ability to apply known concepts to situations.
The required knowledge in any section will not exceed that found in the Year 8 curriculum.
The entrance exam for Victoria’s Select Entry High Schools consists of five components, designed to assess a student’s academic aptitude across a range of areas:
ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) exams are widely used by private and selective-entry schools across Australia to assess students for scholarships and accelerated learning programs. These tests evaluate a student’s abilities in mathematics, reading comprehension, written expression, and abstract reasoning—skills that go beyond the standard school curriculum. Known for their difficulty, ACER exams are highly competitive and require focused preparation to perform well.Â

Edutest is a leading academic assessment used by many independent, private, and selective-entry schools across Australia to identify students for scholarship opportunities and accelerated learning programs. The test is designed to evaluate a student’s abilities in key areas such as numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics, and written expression. Known for its difficulty and time pressure, Edutest goes well beyond standard school assessments, making focused preparation essential for success.Â

well as correct, complete and punctuate sentences.
